Local Waterfront Revitalization Program
First designated in 2002, a new land and water strategy for the Village of Athens’ waterfront revitalization area is being developed under a grant provided by New York State Department of State (DOS). The Village will build consensus on waterfront projects and use the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) as a central implementation tool and framework for waterfront use. Athens’ LWRP will capitalize on opportunities to enhance the waterfront experience in the village for residents, workforce and visitors.
New York Forward Proposal
GREAT NEWS! In October 2024, the Village of Athens submitted its second proposal for a $4.5 million New York Forward Program award to help revitalize and enhance the vibrancy of and quality of life in our downtowns. In March 2025, Governor Hochul announced the Village of Athens as one of two Capital Region winners of the third round of New York Forward. Keep an eye out for more information.
